My Cosplay Debut

Best Blogger Tips
After months of continuous otaku events, I finally ended up being a cosplayer myself. Year 2012 was my originally intended year to cosplay. Being a newbie, I didn’t have the sense of time and planning for it. I thought it would take long. But no, I finished all the preparations in less than a month. November was a busy time. It was my birthday month and cosplay was my gift to me (and the most expensive one so far!).

But who would I cosplay? I asked myself this common question. I wanted a character that I know by heart. She should have a cute personally. Finally, the costume should be easy to make yet attractive.

After days of brainstorming, I finally made a decision to be Sakura Haruno from Naruto Shippuden. She fits perfectly from my descriptions above. Naruto is one of my favorite anime series. Sakura is cute and her costume is simple yet eye-catching.

I commissioned our seamstress neighbor to make my costume. With her expertise, she was the one who informed me of what type of cloths to buy, the colors, the accessories, everything! It was also stressful on my part as I was still not familiar doing shopping in Divisoria. Thanks to cosplay, I now know. <3

I decided my debut to take place on Pinoy OtakuEncore 2011 (November 27, 2011) in SM Megamall Megatrade Hall 3. It was an auspicious event as it was organized by Naruto Cosplayers PH.

When the day arrived, I was so excited! I waited for that day after 24 years of my life! I was very happy! A lot of people recognized Sakura Haruno and asked for a picture. There were many Naruto and Akatsukicosplayers as well. Surprisingly, I was the only Sakura Haruno cosplayer in the event. :P It was fun to be in character for photos and I have learned how hard it is to strike a pose in a crowded place. It is so overwhelming to see people smile at you while asking for a photo. That alone gave me inspiration to continue cosplay.

Here are my Sakura Haruno cosplay pictures. Credits as tagged.

And here are some of my photos taken by yours truly (some pictures were taken with the help of kind con-goers) ^_^

One of the craziest thing that happened was when I got setup in the PUP Animarriage Booth! I couldn’t stop laughing at the ritual. I ‘got married’ to a Naruto Cosplayer named NicoLeo Arenzen. His friends paid the PhP 30.00 for the marriage booth. However, I wasn’t able to take pictures during the ritual. *sad face* I hope somebody with a kind heart took photos of it. If so, please share it. For the meantime, here is the certificate:

It is more fun to go into an anime convention if you cosplay. You meet lots of fellow cosplayers, strike up a conversation with them, and they become your friends. It is more immersive as you get to join booths and get perks! I enjoyed this one day of cosplay more than months of being a con-goer.

The Second Day of Pinoy Otaku Encore 2011

Best Blogger Tips

The first day of Pinoy Otaku Encore 2011 was a little laid back compare to what follows. Here now is my report for the second day! Yay! ^_^ I arrived early on November 27, 2011 in SM Megamall. Actually, I rarely go out on Sundays but this day was an exception. I have awaited this for 24 years of my life. And now, the time has finally arrived for my cosplay debut! :D

However, for this journal entry, I’m going to be a con-goer. It was not easy coming up with a report when you are cosplaying. But hey, I managed to bring it on, albeit poorly. So on with the event…

The crowd was a lot more than the first day. The event highlights happened on the second day, that’s why. There were K-pop Dance Contest, Battle of the Bands, and Cosplay Competition in the lineup. Of course, since I was also roaming around Megatrade Hall 3, I wasn’t able to cover all of these up close.

Fangirls and their deafening screams flooded the place when the K-pop Dance Contest started. Different groups danced and lip synched to their favorite idols on stage.

I had fun at the PUP Animerriage Booth! It was the noisiest place to be. A lot of people were enjoying there! I, too, got setup in there. Oh! Unfortunately, I was unable to take pictures! :( Does anyone have some of my pics?

Readers of this blog are familiar that I always dedicate space for cosplayers. They are the heart of the event after all. So far, this event has the most pictures of cosplayers so far! Well, it is obvious that I had more fun than any other event, right? :)

My favorite cosplayer of the day is… me! Hahaha! Nah, just kidding! In every event, I choose a cosplayer who, in my opinion, stands out among the crowd. For this special day, I choose…her who cosplayed Shiori Tsuzuki. Her costume is well made and she is into character very well.

I will forever remember this event in my life! Thank you to the cosplay community and to the NarutoCosplayers PH for organizing this event. You deserve its success! Till next cosplay! :)
