I am a Chemist Thanks to Bob Ong

“Yehey! No Calculus!”, that was my reaction when I read the BS Chemistry prospectus when I was 16 years old. My college days were just beginning but I fear that Math was going to ruin it.

Math17 Algebra
Math25A Trigonometry
Math36 Statistics

Those were some of the Math subjects that I would be taking. Along with…

Math51 Analysis I
Math52 Analysis II
Math53 Analysis III

“Huh? What are those?”, I asked. I thought it was some new subjects for college. I never expected anything from it. So, without any second thoughts, I enrolled myself in BS Chemistry.

However, I kept on wondering what the Analysis subjects represent. Then, I met Ate Patti who answered my question.

“Analysis? Oh! That’s CALCULUS!”, she said as she gave out a heavy sigh. (T_T)

“Oh no!”, I replied, having regretted that I asked. My hopeful and happy visions of college were suddenly enveloped in a dark cloud of pain and despair.

I continued with my rants, “Why didn’t they just put Calculus there instead of masking it with another name?” I was so angry. “Oh no! I will be taking not one but three Calculus subjects!”

But it was already too late. I was officially a student of BS Chemistry and classes were formally starting. There was no turning back.

So, I continued on with BS Chemistry and when the time came to take the first calculus, I had a really bad performance. The topics were entirely new to me but my other classmates were treating it as if it were a review. I couldn’t catch up with them.

When I got a failing midterm grade, I decided to give up my dream of becoming a scientist. “There’s no point in going to class when I don’t learn anything from it.”, I said to myself. I planned to shift to another course, ones that don’t require calculus in them. I found BS Nursing, Culinary Arts, HRM, B Fine Arts, AB Linguistics, AB Philosophy, AB Political Science, and other Liberal Arts courses. Among the list, the one closest to my interest is Philosophy.

I was at a loss. So, I just went to an internet café to unwind. ABNKKBSNPLAko by Bob Ong…. I saw that in my crush’s list of favorite books. Knowing him, it could be worth a read. I went to buy it in the nearest bookstore when I had the chance.

And oh boy! It was really worth it! Bob Ong is such a funny author. His ideas are very serious but he presents it with a sense of humor. His book ABNKKBSNPLAko talked about his experiences in school and the lessons that come with it. I laughed hard from his witty and funny stories.

But there was one line there that changed my decision of shifting from BS Chemistry to another course:

”Nalaman kong napakaliit na bagay pala ng isang recitation, project, at quiz para sumira ng buhay mo. At napakalaking pagkakamali ang kalimutan ang pangarap mo para lang makaiwas sa mga terror teachers at mahihirap na subjects.”

(“I have learned that one recitation, project, or quiz is a small matter for it to destroy your life. And it is a big mistake to forget your dreams just because you want to avoid terror teachers and difficult subjects.”)

The book touched my heart. It gave me inspiration to continue on with my dreams. Bob Ong helped me in getting the courage to face difficult subjects, not just Calculus but Physical Chemistry as well.

And yeah! I passed the three Calculus subjects, though my grades weren’t excellent. “Oh! 3.0 would do!”

The 2019 Starbucks SG Planner

Happy New Year, dear readers! The year 2019 comes with new wishes, new beginnings, and of course, new planners! Yay! I'm excited for all of it. The new year for me means a fresh start for all the failures I've had for the previous year. Yep, I feel ya! 2018 was kinda rough for me, too. But anyways, I'm here to share with you a tool to help us face the days ahead.  I'm sure that some of us take life as it goes along. But there are others, like me, who have a planning personality. And lemme tell ya, it's really frustrating how things don't go according to plan. Most of the time, life doesn't make it go as planned. Ugh... But fret not! Even if life foils everything, that doesn't stop us from using planners! Wheee~ They're cute and inspirational. They give us a sense of "getting our life together" , too. Hahaha~ So for this post, I'm gonna share with you the Starbucks Singapore  2019 planner!  The 2019 Starbucks Singapore Planner

Lee Min Ho Mall Tour: SM Mall of Asia Leg

I still can't believe that it was just two nights ago (November 18, 2012), I saw Lee Min Ho in the flesh! As early as 5:30PM, I was already in SM Mall of Asia Music Hall, joining the fans as we eagerly wait for his arrival. The crowd was very overwhelming. I bet some people waited there two hours earlier than I did!  Lee Min Ho is a South Korean actor. His popular dramas include Boys Over Flowers, City Hunter, and Faith among others. His prowess as an actor and his to-die-for looks are enough to make women go gaga over him -me included!  He is my favorite actor. I love his dramas. In the future, as I gain more skills, I plan to cosplay his characters, especially Johnny from City Hunter. He is the reason why I love Korean products like Etude House . Now, I have another brand to love... and it's a Filipino brand! I'm very happy that Lee Min Ho is the latest endorser of the clothing line, Bench .  Crowds make me uncomfortable. It was my first time to have ever attended

[Review] Gluta-C Intense Whitening Body Scrub

Gluta-C Intense Whitening Body Scrub is a product that impressed me on my first try. Mostly, when I review beauty products, I use it at least a week to see the effects and results on my skin. I never thought that a body scrub can make me go "wow!" instantly! I got this from my Gluta-C Sample Room haul . And I used it the day after I got it. I was that excited!  This product is packaged in a tub. It is a soft, viscous, and grainy cream. The smell is nice, too! It has a cool perfume scent.  120g tub of Gluta-C Body Scrub This is how I used this: I wet my skin and then took an ample amount of the scrub and then applied it using circular motions. Afterwards, I put liquid body wash on a loofah then rubbed on my skin. I could feel the small grains from the scrub gently exfoliating my skin. I love the combination it does with the body wash. The bubbles and the foam make it comfortable! All the while, I know that my skin is thoroughly cleansed!  Here is the surprise!
